*Kate grew up as a military kid, her father was a high-ranking general who ended up on the Skynet project
* She had a brief dating fling with John in high school
* She went to college to be a veterinarian and worked as one when everything changed. She was also engaged to be married
* John broke into the vet clinic to get medicine after breaking his leg while riding his bike. Kate got a call and arrived, only for the T-X, an advanced robot programmed to kill her and other people in John’s future organization, to arrive as well. She threw John into a dog kennel but he escaped. Another robot, the T-850, showed up and it threw her in the back of the clinic’s van after identifying her as Kate, and took off with John in the front.
* John and the T-850 made their way to the cemetery where Sarah Connor, John’s mom, had a weapons cache buried in her coffin. The T-X went to Kate’s home and killed her fiancé, then impersonated him to come with the police to the cemetery. She learns her fiancé is dead when the T-X breaks its disguise and attacks.
* After escaping the T-X and the police, she learns that she’s John’s future wife and that her future self programmed the T-850 to go back in time and protect her and other people in the future Resistance. After learning that it must follow her commands, she orders it to take herself and John to see her father, hoping to stop Skynet before it rises
* She and John arrive in time to see her father shot by the T-X and Skynet, which was just just activated, begins trying to kill everyone in the compound. John and Kate are given access codes by her dying father to what he thinks is Skynet’s core.
* After escaping the chaos, John and Kate reach the fallout shelter just in time to be safe as Skynet unleashes Judgement Day in the form of nuclear missles. The T-X tries to attack again, but is destroyed in a self-sacrificing helicopter crash by the T-850.
* John tries to communicate with the outside world from the shelter. After the fallout dies down, they leave the building and join the forming Resistance. John is initially just another soldier, he has to work his way up and gain everyone’s confidence before he becomes leader.
* John and Kate, as foretold, fall in love and marry as best they can in the situation. Kate studies with human doctors and medics to help treat the wounded and become quite competent.
* Kate pesters John to work more on the front lines. She knows she’s respected as a medic, but wants the respect of the others as a warrior as well. John is naturally reluctant.
* John lets her go with a recruitment mission to the community of Fallen Ashes but tells her to stay in her usual support role. Kate sneaks off anyway to join the soldiers on the front lines. Things go badly, and only a few come with the Resistance, but they do come to an agreement about fuel and supply usage.
* Kate discovers she’s pregnant when they return to base.
* Kate continues working with the medical crew while John encounters Marcus Wright. John finds out he’s a cyborg and wants him killed, but a pilot named Blair thinks differently and helps Marcus to escape. John also thinks he’s found a way to kill the Terminators and win the war. He slowly begins trusting Marcus and from him, finds out his future father is being held in a work camp and goes to rescue him. Kate is seen bidding him goodbye.
* John is fatally injured while fighting a T-850 in the work camp raid. Kate leads a team to transplant the heart Marcus offered into her husband’s body.
* The group learns that a serial killer named Parnell has been awakned by Skynet in an attempt to create the ultimate Terminator. But Parnell goes rogue and begins transferring the control of the Terminators to himself. John is forced to make an uneasy alliance with Skynet itself to stop Parnell, the greater threat.
* John’s human body is destroyed, but the Terminator body he was given control of is covered in human flesh. It’s only then that he allows Kate to see him. She says that she still loves the man inside the robot, despite what he’s become.
* The war ends with John killing Skynet after Parnell is neutralized. Kate gives birth to a son, named Kyle for game purposes, and is later artificially inseminated with a daughter, Sarah. They try to make a normal life after the war, and it’s when Kyle is about 8 and Sarah about 6 that she’s pulled into here.
Character Personality:
Personality: Kate tends to be stubborn, strong willed and rather independent as a rule. She’s a woman who was robbed of her normal life and thrown into a decades long fight for survival in just a matter of hours. By the war’s end, she’s been through a lot and seen a lot, but she hasn’t let it dampen her desire to survive.
She shares the burden of her husband’s destiny and position as leader of the resistance, struggling with the very real chance they could lose each other and with her desire to get more into the field and earn the respect of the other members of the Resistance. She does take John’s feelings into account, but still isn’t afraid to take matters into her own hands without his knowledge. She’s a woman who doesn’t like to let go of something once she’s got her mind set on it.
Kate is resourceful and quick thinking, able to get herself out of tight situations and think quickly to survive. Some of this manifested even before the war, when she thought she was being kidnapped and never stopped trying to find a way to save herself. However, living through the war heightened these abilities even moreso.
She’s well aware of what the time travelers have said, about herself and about John, but she still isn’t afraid to try and make her own destiny and do things her own way. She’s very protective of John and the children they have after the war, and even in general, she can have a fierce temper and isn’t the kind of woman you want mad at you.
She does have a caring, compassionate side that comes out around John, and can even be a little impish or playful with him from time to time. Even when he left in a terminator body at the end of the war, she still focused on the man inside rather than the machine. She may be a little distrustful of some other machines, though.
Sometimes she is still affected by PTSD, as the things she saw and experienced don’t go away overnight. She still tends to be a little guarded around strangers, though she’ll be a little friendlier once she gets to know them. She’s managed not to have a big problem with panic attacks, but sometimes she still has nightmares.
Powers and Abilities: 'nuff said.
Kate has formal training as a veterinarian. She became skilled in human medicine over the course of the war, learning with Resistance medics and from books so that she could help the wounded Resistance members as was needed. She’s able to do even complicated surgeries, as evidenced by her leading the transplant of a new heart into her husband John at the end of the movie.
She’s self-reliant and quick-thinking, and it’s possible to surmise that she was taught some things about guns and self-defense by her father, an Army general. She was able to find a chance to escape from what she saw as a kidnapping when John and the T-850 took off in the clinic van to escape the T-X and find the weapons cache left by John’s mother. She was also able to defend herself while fighting and to use a gun to a decent extent while fighting on foot. She naturally couldn’t do much against the T-X but would probably at least be able to stand up to a human opponent to an extent.
She picked up more self-defense and survival skills during the war. It was necessary over the years to defend against hostile human groups and terminators, to scavenge for food and supplies, and to learn to make and repair things to make them last as long as possible. This would probably include things like various electronics (mostly battery operated most likely, since there were no working power lines or such), the perhaps small things with the shelters being used, clothing, etc.
She displays skill with machines, a lot of it learned during the war most likely. The main example of this is the fact that she re-programmed the T-850 that was sent back in time to protect her younger self and John’s Resistance lieutenants.

I’m not entirely sure about this place yet. I’ve learned a few things, between what my husband’s told me and the people I talked to when I first got here, but there’s still a lot to grapple with. I suppose I’ll get used to it, if it’s true what I’ve been told, that John and I will be staying here for a while.
[Kate is happy on one level that it’s a not a war zone or a survival situation, but she still doesn’t like the fact that she and John were pulled in against their will. She’s had enough of things being out of her control, of other entities trying to determine her fate. She knows she has to accept what’s going on here, but she won’t be able to let go of her feeling of unease anytime soon. ]
I do have one question, if anyone can help me. Who would I speak to about working with the medical personnel while I’m here? Not all of my training is exactly formal, but I’ve learned enough on the job, working with the combat medics and the few doctors we had with us during the war I was caught in, that I’m pretty competent now. I figure that as long as I’m going to be staying here, I might as well see if I can put my skills to use somehow. Any help is appreciated, thank you.
Third Person:
Kate made her way along the street of the place she’d suddenly found herself in. She remembered a bright flash, and then she was picking herself up off the ground in a place that was totally strange to her. It couldn’t have been anything with the time travel device. It had been destroyed after the war, in hopes of preventing anyone else from disrupting or altering anything else.
She was keeping her guard up, wishing she had a gun on her just in case. She took in her surroundings fairly carefully, her instinct to keep herself protected and watch for trouble still deeply ingrained, even after the war. She had been worried first of all for John and the kids, since she’d woken up here alone and had no idea where they were all at.
She did notice that the city was well taken care of and kept up, although it seemed to be a mixture of different places and types of buildings. It was still sometimes tough, even after years had passed, to keep from looking around and expecting a Terminator or a Skynet ship to come flying overhead and try to kill her. Whoever said PTSD stuck around a while hadn’t been kidding, that was for sure. Sometimes, Kate wondered if she’d ever be anything close to normal again. Life was better now, true, but coping with what her mind and body had been through was a lot harder sometimes.
She had been approached a few times, and had talked to a couple of people. They seemed friendly enough, directing her to the welcome center and explaining that this was Nautilus, and she had ‘wakened’…whatever that meant. She’d discovered John’s presence while getting herself acquainted with the communications device that she’d found on her when she’d woken up. That was something of a relief, but it still raised more questions in her mind.
How had he been here when he’d just been with her back home? Someone had mentioned time travel…when, then was he from? She knew she was going to have to watch what she said when she found him. If he didn’t know that he became a Terminator at the end of the war, he would probably be very stunned and upset to find out about it.
She had talked to him on the network device and was now getting to where he’d said he was living. Naturally, he’d been ecstatic to hear from her, and he already had the door open as she got close to the house.
“John!” she said loudly. “Boy are you a sight for sore eyes.” As they hugged, she picked up the sound of a human heartbeat and breathing. Human…he was human here. She tried not to think of how much she’d missed all the little things after he’d become a Terminator. But then, what about the kids?
“Do we know anyone else here, or is it just you and I so far?” she asked, and waited to see what he’d answer.
